Brief Description of Persona:

  • Crow’s wing black hair, in the solid form of loose glossy curls, descends to sheath the ear lobes. Embrowned melanin overlays the compact forms of developed muscle, though his musculature is certainly far from being christened ‘buff.’ Endowed with the totem of a lupine, long legs adept at sprinting and qualis ab incepto (endurance) balance out a torso of near equal length. Eyes of wintry frost blaze with the warmth of the Snowy Wastes, their gaze sometimes appearing to sear through anything they look at. An aura of apathy and liquid defiance shrouds this youth. Features are sharp and chiseled, the visage fabricated with a square jaw and high cheekbones.

A’ren has no attachment to other people, his independence quite dominant, as his dragon is his only companion and friend. With the poisoned tongue of viper and matching pugnacity, he strikes quick and has little challenge him. Wielding satire and travesty like a finely honed sword, he doesn’t make friends easily, only enemies. A near misantropic, he avoids public places altogether and can often be found in the surrounding jungle, lake or Heights.

Eclipsing challenges with a grating perseverance and his persistence dogged, his obstinacy rivals his arrogance. He never expects anything from anyone, nor does he give anything in return. Speaking his mind has often gotten him into infinite verbal and physical spars, though his cool bearing and confidence have championed him.

    Brief History of Persona:

  • Born to a modest family of former traders, Apocren was seemingly blessed with three other brothers and sisters. The folks had retired from the nomadic lifestyle and settled at the former Black Rock Hold. For his 15th Turn day, Apocren's guardians decided that becoming a Dragon healer would help with people skills. It was there where he learned to prefer draconic company over people.

When he was Searched, his family was ecstatic. Apocren's parents believed that if he Impressed, the added mind and rationality of a dragon would settle him and bring out his better qualities. Their theory has yet to be proven, however.

On month 12, day 25, the first of the momentous events occurred. Within the boundaries of the jungle, Apocren had completely missed his first Hatching. Upon his return to the Weyr, he realized his acquaintance, Reyna, had Impressed the little queen of the Clutch.

The second Hatching took place on month 3, day 8. This time, the youth was present and was stalking back to the barracks when the last dragonet of the Clutch followed him and claimed him as his Own. Ecstatic and deeply proud, his parents couldn’t attend but were informed via firelizard of their son’s great feat.

The great quake that brought down Star Lake did not leave A’ren unscathed. A tree had fallen and fractured the weyrling’s leg. He was salvaged by Reyna and Piriath, but the injury was only the beginning. His family was lost when Black Rock Hold was swallowed by the earth and so A’ren remains detached from the rest of the world, his lineage wiped out and his family’s lives snuffed out. Apocalon, Cendra, Calypsia, Cendren and Fallia are but mere memories; fading lights in a world of shadows.

    Description of Dragon:

  • Spatters of iron oxide dictate the bronze’s hide, their range falling into extremes from scarlet to mynah. Nuances of malachite dot his undersides, the wing spars lacquered with values of copper. Growing in sharp spurts, his adult size is nearly impossible to predict.

His personality is quite sage for his Turns, with a dignified and independent manner, not unlike his rider but not so extreme. Intensely protective of his Bond, the bronze provides the only family to the parentless A’ren and holds true to a dying father’s last words: "Protect him.."
